In order to achieve an easier
monitoring of devices that are monitored by a network management
system, such as HP Open View, a snap-in has been developed. The snap-in
integrates into the HP Open View menu by creating an icon. It is
possible to create an unlimited number of icons on the desktop menu.
The icon informs the user about the status of the monitored UPS, by
using different colours. Via mouse click on the icons, the UPSMON and
respectively the JAVAMON will be started and automatically connected
with the corresponding UPS. The connection of the UPS to the network is
achieved either by using a SNMP Adapter or a UPSMAN with an integrated
SNMP agent. The snap-in is a JAVA based program that runs under HP-UX
or Windows NT/2000.
