The main function of the USW is to
monitor redundant configured UPS systems and to control the network
shut down. The user can set the number of the monitored units during
the configuration, depending the UPS constellation. The configuration
creates an individual screen for every unit. The USW will monitor all
UPS device via the network that have been nominate during the
configuration. The connection from the UPS to the network is achieves
with the SNMP adapter or a UPSMAN with SNMP agent. Redundant configured
UPS systems may be bundled in groups. The configuration enables than,
what specific action is to be executed (e.g. sending a message or
executing an action) if one of the UPS in a group reports a change in
status or several UPS operate on battery power. It is also possible to
integrate single UPS units into the monitoring process. When needed USW
-if configured- is able to run a sequential shut down of all computers
in the network. In order to achieve this, the client computers simply
would need the network shut down module RCCMD to be running. Via
coloured LEDs the current status of every unit is displayed clearly. By
clicking on the mouse, the UPSMON or respectively the JAVAMON is
started and more specific information about the UPS and additional
values are displayed. Within a separate event screen, all status
changes and alarms are protocoled. The USW is a JAVA based program for
the use under UNIX or Windows NT/2000.
