UPSMAN

The UPS-Management-Software module UPSMAN communicates via serial interface of the computer or via the network, using a SNMP adapter in order to receive all status information and measurement values of the connected UPS. The UPSMAN offers the possibility to monitor UPS systems with potential free contacts or serial interfaces. In addition the UPSMAN can process network protocol SNMP and GENEREX SNMP adapter data, using Windows NT/2000. As long as the UPS runs on normal power, the function of the UPSMAN is to protocol all events into a log-file and to provide the same data in the network to applications that visualise these.
During a power failure the UPSMAN begins its actual function by monitoring the remaining battery time of the UPS and to initiate the local or network shut down of UPS protected computers. Every UPSMAN provides the send module (RCCMD), that allows for messaging and shut down of computers in homogenous and heterogeneous networks (via TCP/IP). Different methods are available for executing shutdowns and start-ups: Cold boots, warm boots, and wake on LAN.
IIn the event section the user can alter the configuration in respects to network messaging, sending of e-mails or SMS, shut down, etc., so the requirements of the user are met. All messages are sent out in the language that has been selected during the installation. At the moment 11 languages are supported. Under the operating systems Windows NT/ 2000, Novell Netware and UNIX, the UPSMAN contains the software SNMP sub agent (PROXY agent). This SNMP agent provides the UPS data to the network in SNMP format. This allows for NMS software like HP Openview or IBM Netview to utilise its own processing tools. The UPSMAN for all UNIX derivatives is also equipped with a WEB-server, that allows for access to data via every standard WEB-browser. In addition to this the UPSMAN can start pre-configured applications, during 4 different stages of the battery remaining time. A sequential network shut down or a save shut down of a database is possible, if a UPS is connected to several computers.
